Substantial Patent Coverage

The Directors believe that Cortical Dynamics Ltd competitive advantage is underpinned by the extensive patents. Cortical has patents in five patent families which have progressed along the Patent Co-operation Treaty path with all the patents maturing into national patent applications. Patents cover both CCS and CI. Arising IP will be protected as appropriate during the commercialisation process to maintain Cortical’s strong competitive position.

The strength of Cortical’s patents has been illustrated a number of times when Cortical’s “prior art” (i.e. previous patents work) has been quoted by different countries’ patent offices in Cortical’s later patent sequence. For example, in the patent examination of the Composite Brain Function Monitoring and display system (family 5 below) the Australian Patent Office in 2015 cited two earlier US patents by Cortical in 2006 and 2010 from USA as well as a 2007 Cortical patent as prior art.
